Support Westin's Brave Fight Against Heart Failure
Hello, my name is Paige. I am raising funds to help my family as we deal with an extremely difficult time. My 1 year old baby boy Westin has an infection in his heart from a virus. His heart is only working at 17% and he is dependent on oxygen. There is fluid in his abdomen from the virus that has enlarged his heart and inflamed his liver, and kidneys. His heart is so swollen that the mitral valve can't close fully to send blood to his aorta to disperse properly throughout the rest of his body. With the valve not being able to close blood is also flooding back down into his heart and leaking out into his abdomen which is also effecting his lungs along with his liver, kidneys, and heart.
I'm staying in the hospital with him during this time. Our finances are nowhere near the greatest...
Westin's brother is Landon and he's 7 years old. He's currently been staying home with his Grandpa. I'd like to help my family in return as they're helping me with Landon while I'm here with Westin. They've traveled Landon to places quite a bit since we've been at the hospital. School "where he has all A's and B's." Taking turns driving him to each other's houses when they rotate. Taking him to his doctors appointments when they are due.
This is definitely the hardest and scariest milestone my family has gone through and Westin is being so strong and brave!
Unfortunately he will be living with this disease for the rest of his life...dependent on multiple cardiac medications and many many doctors appointments. Due to the circumstances my family will have to move closer to his doctors so he is safe and can get the emergency care he needs! I'm trying to get fundraisers started as well, but I'm needing volunteer vendors to collaborate something together with. If you know of any resources please let me know! Thank you for taking the time to read about my family and for being here with us during this unbearable time!
UPDATE: He has been home for 2 weeks now and had his first outing patient check up on May 7th. He's on 3 heart meds 1 for svt 2 diaretics "keeps extra fluid out of his body" a multivitamin, murlax as needed, a blood thinner, and he has to drink pediasures 3 times a day his checkup went good his bmp at discharge was 1040 and now it's 863 it was above 7000 when he got admitted and normal range is 0-85 his echo looked better this time with the blood flow so the heart meds are doing their job getting his heart to squeeze hard enough and not keep blood pooled in the chambers but he's still at 17% function. They increased 1 heart med after the visit and will be increasing a 2nd one in 2 weeks.
