**Help Us Bring History and Culture to Life for the 2024 Westinghouse Band!**
**Purpose of the Trip:**
The Westinghouse High Stepping Marching Band is embarking on a unique educational journey to experience the rich and vibrant culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Our band’s roots are deeply intertwined with HBCU traditions, and this trip will provide our students with an immersive experience that connects them directly to the source of that inspiration.
Saturday, September 21st, our students will attend the annual football game between Howard University and Hampton University at Audi Field in Washington DC, known as the “Truth and Service Classic,” to witness the thrilling “Battle of the Real HU.” This iconic event showcases not only fierce athletic rivalry but also the dynamic performances of two of the nation’s top HBCU marching bands.
During this trip, our students will see firsthand the powerful performances and time-honored traditions that have shaped our own band’s style. From the high-energy drumlines to the intricate marching formations, this experience is more than just a field trip—it’s a chance for our students to feel the pride and passion that have fueled generations before them. Our hope is that they’ll return home with a renewed sense of connection to their heritage, bringing back that nostalgic pride that once energized the halls of Westinghouse.
**Why We Need Your Help:**
This trip is a non-district event, meaning it is not funded by the school. We rely on the generosity of our community, awesome alumni, and supporters to make this dream a reality for our students. Your contributions will directly cover transportation, meals, and accommodations for our band members.
**How You Can Make a Difference:**
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal. By supporting this campaign, you’re not just funding a trip—you’re investing in the cultural and educational enrichment of our students. You’re helping to keep the spirit and traditions of Westinghouse band culture alive within our community.
**Join Us on This Journey:**
We invite you to be part of this unforgettable experience. Let’s work together to ensure our students come back with new memories, deeper pride, and a sense of belonging to a legacy that is much larger than themselves. GO HOUSE !
