On October 28, Jamaica was hit by what was widely recognized as “earth’s strongest storm” - Hurricane Melissa. The storm slammed into the island with winds of 185 miles per hour, taking homes, dreams, and livelihoods, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. As many as 1 million people — more than a third of the island’s 2.8 million residents — have been affected by Melissa’s ferocious winds and rains, the UN estimates. We are a small family foundation with deep ties in the Montego Bay and Westmoreland communities, which were among the hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa. Help us bring relief to these communities and start the recovery process.

\Who we are:
Samere Reid-Buchanan leads the Moriyah Foundation. She was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Our priority areas for immediate relief include: 1) food, 2) tarps, 3) cots and mattresses. These will be shipped to Jamaica for distribution through local community leaders.

We have already sent our first shipment to our on the ground partners in Jamaica thanks to your help! We will use the donations that come in to purchase food, tarps, mattresses & cots, and roofing supplies as well as power banks if possible. These will be sent to our local partners in Jamaica for distribution within the affected communities of Catherine Hall, Petersfield, and Western Westmoreland.
