Support Wes’s Road to Recovery After Spinal Stroke
Hi everyone,
My name is Wes, and I’m asking for your support as I face the toughest challenge of my life. On September 26, 2024, I experienced something that changed my life forever—a rare spinal cord stroke that left me paralyzed from my lower ribcage down to my feet. The journey toward healing has been the hardest battle I’ve ever faced.
The surgeons initially removed a non-cancerous schwannoma tumor from my spinal cord. Schwannomas develop from Schwann cells, which insulate peripheral nerves with a protective myelin sheath. Although these tumors are usually benign, they can cause symptoms by compressing surrounding nerves or the spinal cord itself, leading to issues like pain, numbness, muscle weakness, or even changes in motor function. In my case Since it was intracanalicular (within the spinal canal), removing it was essential to avoid worsening neurological symptoms.
I underwent two surgeries to remove the tumor in my spine, and while the first surgery was successful, the second surgery revealed two days later that I was left with paralysis due to a rare spinal cord stroke. My recovery has been slow but steady, with every small movement and sensation in my legs feeling like a major victory. I’ve gone through weeks of physical therapy, relearning how to control my body all while pushing my mind, body, spirit and soul through incredible obstacles.
I’ve faced a lot of ups and downs, but I remain hopeful. I’ve regained some feeling in my legs and have started to move my thighs, though it’s still a struggle. Every day, I push myself a little harder in therapy, determined to regain as much independence as possible. I’m thankful for the support of my family, especially my incredible girlfriend Paige, who has been by my side every step of the way. The road ahead is still long, and even though I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I know I can’t do it alone.
Unfortunately, the cost of continued therapy, medical appointments, medications, and equipment is more than I can handle on my own. That’s why I’m asking for your support. Your donations will go directly toward:
• Intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation
• Medical treatments and follow-up MRIs
• Specialized equipment to aid my mobility and independence
• Ongoing care and recovery expenses
This has been the most humbling experience of my life, and as difficult as it’s been, it’s also given me time to reflect and grow. I’ve come to realize how precious life is how important patience is, and how much I value the relationships and support around me. I’m reaching out now, not just for financial help, but for the strength to keep going, knowing that I have a strong supportive community behind me.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. Any donation, big or small, would mean the world to me. Even if you can’t contribute financially, sharing this campaign would be an incredible help. I truly believe that with the right support, I can continue to make strides in my recovery and return to a fuller, more independent life.
Si se puede!
With all my love and gratitude,
Wes
