Wesley Skinner, a Richland Police Department Narcotics Investigator and K9 handler, was involved in a car accident on Thursday, April 24, 2025, while he was responding to help fellow officers who were taking gunfire from a barricaded suspect. Wesley was transported by ambulance to UMMC and suffered an open ankle fracture, a tibial plateau fracture, a dislocated hip, an acetabulum fracture, and a fracture in his lumbar spine. Wesley underwent an extensive 8-hour surgery on Friday and will have another surgery on Monday. Wesley is currently hospitalized with an unknown discharge date. It’s too early to determine how long he will be off work but likely at least 6 months. While workers' comp will be compensating Wesley and covering his medical bills, he will be limited on any additional income. Wesley has a 7-month-old baby at home who still requires diapers, formula, daycare, etc. Let’s take some stress off by helping out with the cost of living! Wesley goes above and beyond to serve the citizens of Richland and puts his life in danger every day; it’s our turn to serve him!
