Support Wesley's Heart Transplant Journey

Donation protected
My name is David Brandt, and this fundraiser is to help with medical and living expenses for my long time dear friend, Wesley Kekauoha, a dedicated father, husband, and IBEW union member.

Wes and I have been great friends since 2007, where our paths crossed when he joined the same company. On Monday morning April 1, 2024, I showed up to the job site in Chicago, IL to relieve Wes of his work shift at night splicing cable. I found him struggling for breath and, as we later learned, symptomatic of heart problems.

Wes was first transported to a local hospital in Chicago and moved to Loyola University Medical Center the next day after being diagnosed with cardiac failure. The following day, Wes had a double bypass and heart valve repair. After a few days in the ICU, the cardiac team determined that Wes needs a full heart transplant.

I have started this Go Fund Me account to raise funds to cover Wes’ medical and living expenses. The immediate need is to cover the transport from Chicago to Houston, TX, which is not covered by insurance, so he can be at home with his family while he waits for the transplant. His medical insurance will only last 5 more months because he is unable to contribute working hours before his transplant.

Wes was born and raised in Laie, Hawaii. After school he enlisted with the IBEW Local Union 1186 to become a journeyman wireman. Wes was later introduced to the high voltage side of our industry. Wes has spent the better part of 12 years dedicated to IBEW Local Union 456. Wes has worked for Pirelli Cable Corp, W.A. Chester LLC (where we met), Hawkeye Electric, Haugland Energy, and our current company, Infrasource a Quanta Service Company.

Wes is husband to LeiLai and a wonderful father to 5 children. Wes and his family are life-long, devout Christians. Wes showed me not just how to be a better high voltage cable splicer, but how to be a better man. I can say with certainty that Wes’ humbleness and selflessness touches everyone he meets!

Wes has a very long road to recovery. With his determination and will to be the best husband, father and friend, he will win this battle. Today, we are asking for help from all. The smallest donation will make a difference for Wes and his recovery.

We will post updates about his journey home and medical treatment.

Praying for a Full Recovery
