Support Wesley Lehman's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
I’m Samantha Lehman and this GoFundMe is for my dad, Wesley Lehman. My dad is 51 years old and his 30th year of being a truck driver is this December 2024. In November 2023, he found a growth that he was concerned about. Due to the area of the growth, a Urologist was contacted, and a surgery was scheduled. On January 25th, 2024, he had the tumor removed and then tested. In February 2024, he was diagnosed with cancer from the results of the tumor. On February 12th, 2024, he had a new patient appointment with an Oncologist to discuss the cancer. February 26th, 2024, he had an appointment with the Urologist to have a follow up exam from the surgery. March 1st, 2024, he had a CT scan done to check the area of the surgery to make sure no tumors remained. March 13th, 2024, he had an Oncologist appointment to discuss the results of the CT scan which showed no cancer remained, which means he is in remission. A CT scan was scheduled for 5 months in advance as a checkup. In June 2024, he began to have serious pain in his neck, shoulders, and arms. July 1st, 2024, he had a chiropractor appointment for a neck and back adjustment, which left his neck in more pain than when he came in. The pain continued to not go away and began to get worse. July 15th, 2024, he had another chiropractor appointment for the same adjustments, which made his neck hurt more and his pain would not go away. He canceled his next appointment on July 19th, 2024, because he was in too much pain to get adjusted. In July 2024, he was slowly starting to lose the mobility in his arms and couldn’t lift them above a certain point. He felt like he was slowly becoming paralyzed. So, on July 29th, 2024, he had a CT scan done which was his 5 months check up from the surgery and the last CT scan. They had found a tumor behind his left kidney that measured 5.1 x 3.6 x 5.7 centimeters. The tumor was roughly the size of a fist. The same day he had an x-ray done at the chiropractor, where they found that his C4 vertebrae in his neck had collapsed. August 9th, 2024, he had a walk-in appointment at the OSS in Hanover, where the doctor reviewed his x-ray from the chiropractor. The doctor said that there was likely a tumor in his C4 vertebrae which was the cause of it collapsing. The doctor sent my dad to the ER in Hanover to have an MRI of his neck done. The results came back that he had an osseous metastatic tumor in the C4 vertebrae, which is classified as bone cancer. The ER never notified his Oncologist of these results. August 12th, 2024, my mom, Carolyn Lehman, made a call to the Oncologist about the results, which they didn't know about. They said they'd call back, which they never called back until August 13th, 2024. They called my dad and said that they had reviewed the MRI done on August 9th, and that he needed to get emergency surgery up at the UPMC West Shore hospital or he’d likely become paralyzed. My dad was admitted later that day where they ran tests and let him know his situation. He had a cancerous tumor in his C4 vertebrae that was pinching his spinal cord to where it was barely hanging on by a thread. They also stated that the nerve running through the C4 and C5 vertebrae, that controls the functionality of your shoulders and arms, was being pinched and if he didn't get the vertebrae replaced, he’d go paralyzed. August 15th, 2024, he had a surgery done that would replace his C4 vertebrae with a plastic/resin vertebrae and he also has a titanium plate and rod added to hold it in place. The surgery went as planned, and he remained in the ICU until August 18th. He began walking the next day and was already beginning to gain a little bit more mobility in his arms than what he had before the surgery. He had an MRI done directly after his surgery while he was still under anesthesia to check his brain and rest of his body for any tumors. They found small tumors/lesions on each of his vertebrae C1-C7, along with a small tumor on his cerebral cortex. His brain scan came back negative for cancer, so there are no tumors on his brain. They said he needed to be in a neck brace for the next 3 months, and he will be starting radiation 2 weeks after his surgery. He will have 10 treatments of radiation in the span of 2 weeks to treat the remaining bit of the tumor from his C4 vertebrae that they had to keep on so they wouldn’t damage his spinal cord any farther, along with the small tumors/lesions on his C1-C7 vertebrae and his cerebral cortex. After these treatments are complete, they will decide if he needs to get chemotherapy for the large tumor behind his left kidney and for any remaining lesions still in his spine after the radiation. He is being released from the hospital on Monday, August 19th, 2024, which is a day after I am typing this. Before his stay at the hospital, he had joked that he was like a T-rex dinosaur because his arms couldn’t raise above his chest, which made his arms like T-Rex arms. The day before his surgery, I bought him a stuffed T-Rex to give to him the day of his surgery for comfort and laughter. He loves his dinosaur, which is in the photo above, where he’s imitating the same pose as the plushy. The nurses on his wing absolutely love Rex (which is what he named the dinosaur) and he became very popular for his dinosaur. He won’t be working for the next 3 months and took off many days previous to his surgery, which affected the income of my family. I am making this GoFundMe to help pay for his very expensive medical bills and hospital stay, and to help sustain the house and bills during his time off. My family and I would very much appreciate your help and donations in this time of need. Many people requested for us to make a GoFundMe to help us out while my dad is recovering. We please ask that everyone stays positive and keeps good faith for my dad. Sorry for the amount of detail in this description, as we tried to keep it as short as we could, but we felt this much explanation was needed. My dad is the strongest person I know, and he has a very very high pain tolerance to where he doesn’t show his pain very often. So, the amount of pain we saw him in was very concerning. He was in excruciating pain for weeks but still tried to work through it. He couldn’t sleep or get comfortable every single night. This is his second round of cancer, and it is much worse than the first battle he survived. This is a very hard time for my family, and we would appreciate your help so much. Thank you for all the support and help though this time and thank you for all your donations in advance. :)
