Support Wesley Kelly's Recovery Post Double Organ Transplant

Donation protected
Thank you for your interest and continued support for Wesley Kelly Keith. Here’s a little bit about her journey, recovery, and how you can help.

For the past seven years, kidney disease has been a constant shadow for Kelly/Wesley. For nearly four of those years, she had to be on dialysis. It started with nine hours daily through peritoneal dialysis and then she was forced to switch to hemodialysis. Hemodialysis lasted five hours each session, three times a week. Kelly/Wesley had a number of surgeries and complications, in addition to becoming incredibly sick! Wesley missed work, family and friends events, classes, concerts, and trips; it had a huge impact on her life. The kidney failure was caused by Type 1 diabetes that she’d had for 29 years.

Despite the challenges, she continued to have faith that her double transplant would come one day. On May 4th, that faith blossomed into reality by receiving a life-changing new pancreas and kidney. This incredible gift not only frees her from dialysis but also ends the constant battle of managing Type 1 diabetes. It's a chance to finally reclaim her life, health, dreams, goals, and passions!
Recovering from a double transplant is no small feat. Her body will be working hard to adjust to these new organs, and she’ll need a lot of rest and physical therapy to regain her strength. Unfortunately, this means she won't be able to work for a minimum of three months from the time she had her transplant.

The Financial Burden of Recovery:

While insurance covers a significant portion of the transplant itself, there are still out-of-pocket medical expenses that accumulate. Add to that the rollover costs of her previous years of treatment, dialysis, and the loss of income during recovery, and the financial burden becomes significant. Every penny counts to cover things like:

Co-pays and deductibles: Even with insurance, there are out-of-pocket costs associated with medications, anti-rejection drugs, and follow-up appointments. Wesley has a minimum of four doctors appointments per week.

Daily expenses: Bills, living expenses, mortgages, food, fuel and parking cost for the many visits don't stop when you're recovering. Your support can help ease the worry and allow her to focus on getting better.

Transportation: Frequent follow-up appointments with specialists are essential for post-transplant care. Your contribution can help cover the cost to these crucial appointments.

How Your Support Makes a Difference:

I'm reaching out to the community for much-needed support during this critical time. Your contributions, however big or small, will directly impact her ability to focus on healing without the added stress of financial worries.

Together, We Can Make a Difference:

For decades, she’s been a fighter (in a good way, lol). With your support, this journey towards a truly healthy future will be a little less daunting. Together, we can ease the financial burden and allow Wesley to focus on what matters most, i.e. recovering and finally living a normal life, free from dialysis and the constant management of diabetes.
