Wes Hammack, my boyfriend, was admitted to the emergency department last Thursday after coughing up blood and experiencing severe chest pain. The doctors quickly discovered blood clots in both his right and left lungs, with a particularly large clot in the right lung that needed to be surgically removed. After the surgery, we hoped Wes would recover and return home soon, but his condition unexpectedly declined. He ended up right back where he started, and the doctors found another large blood clot in his left lung. At this point, they decided not to move forward with another surgery, believing Wes had severe pneumonia when he first arrived. They started him on IV antibiotics to tackle the pneumonia and put him back on IV blood thinners. Once the pneumonia is gone, the focus will shift to getting his blood thinner levels right to prevent further clots.

Wes is out of work and facing mounting medical bills, along with the stress of keeping up with his truck payment and providing for his daughter. This has been an incredibly difficult time for him, and it’s hard to see someone so strong be forced to slow down and rely on others.
