I am doing this GoFundMe for a dear friend many of us knew from Yadkin County. Her husband, Wes has stage IVb metastatic esophageal adenocarcinoma of the bones. He was diagnosed in 2024 and has completed chemotherapy. He has had feeding tubes placed and is unable to eat by mouth at times. In 2025, he was told he was “cancer free”; however, that was short-lived. His cancer rapidly spread and is now basically through all the long bones of his body. His most recent hospitalization (February 19th), Wes and Alana had further discussion with hospice before being discharged home. My visit with them over that weekend made me realize how important this GoFundMe is to their ability to keep their bills paid (due to overwhelming medical expenses), food available that can nourish both Wes and Alana, and gas money for added visits.
Alana has been the sole provider for the home and family for over 2 years now. She’s used all of their savings to keep up with expenses while managing to work full-time. Now, as Wes has declined and needs more care, the pressure for Alana to continue to work vs. stay home with Wes has become increasingly difficult. Wes did make the difficult decision to admit to hospice at home on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, which will help with medication costs and assistance with visits.
If you can find it in your heart to give some, anything is greatly appreciated.
It is said that God never gives us more than we can bear, but I believe it is in community, fellowship, and showing unwavering love to those in times of need that God meant those words.
