Donation protected
Dear friends,
With heavy hearts and hopeful spirits, we share the extraordinary journey of Philip Constable. Recently, Philip underwent a life-saving, dual-organ transplant after being diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis and end-stage multiple myeloma cancer. Despite these challenges, his story is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the enduring bonds of his community.

A Miracle Amid Adversity
Philip’s battle began with a stroke and a brain aneurysm that revealed a rare and severe heart disease. Soon after, a devastating cancer diagnosis compounded his challenges. His health declined rapidly, leading to a desperate need for both a heart and kidney transplant. Through the support of his medical team at UCLA and sheer determination, Philip was placed at the top of the transplant list, and in a miraculous turn of events, after being on the list one week he received both organs.
This life-saving surgery, combined with ongoing chemotherapy, rehabilitation, and lifelong anti-rejection medications, has resulted in astronomical medical costs. Philip, ever humble and resilient, would never ask for help, but his family is now appealing to our community to stand by him in his time of need.

A Life of Talent and Contribution
Philip, known in the music industry as DJ Hardwerk, has built a remarkable career creating music with artists such as Akon, Chris Brown, Cardi B, Damian Marley, and Camila Cabello. Even in the hospital, he continued to compose, creating the hit song “Sensational” by Chris Brown, now nominated for two Grammy Awards.
Beyond his music, Philip has used his talents to give back. He co-founded DJs Against Darkness, a clean energy initiative. He contributed to rebuilding a kinetic energy-powered soccer field in Lagos, Nigeria, which provided light and reduced energy costs for local students.

Early Beginnings
Philip’s musical journey took root as a child at Olivet Gospel Church in the Bronx, NY. It was here, sitting beside his mother (the church organist and choir director) that his love for music was ignited. Other early childhood fires were flamed at Green Meadow, where the guidance of beloved teacher David Blair left an indelible mark on his life. In a moment that would prove prophetic, Mr. Blair instilled in Philip a lesson that now echoes with profound significance. Reflecting on that pivotal time, Philip shared, “Seeing your goals come to fruition after facing obstacle after obstacle makes the victory that much sweeter.” Today, those words reverberate with a haunting clarity as Philip battles the most formidable challenges of his life—challenges that test his perseverance and the strength of his spirit.
