Help support Wendy and Baby Sawyers road to recovery

Donation protected
Greene County Officer and Mother of four, in need of our support.

Wendy Small was hospitalized on November 21st, with critically high blood pressure while 33 weeks pregnant with her fourth child. She was quickly transferred to Cox South, where they tried keeping her stable until she hit that 36-week mark to proceed with delivery.

During the last three weeks of her hospital admission, she's gone through a lot. Due to a placental previa, she knew she would be undergoing a scheduled C-section on December 13th, but what we did not know is what was going to come after.

Wendy ended up hemorrhaging after only getting to meet her new baby for a few short minutes. Her support people were escorted from the room, and she was taken for emergency surgery. Between the dyes used for imaging and the major blood loss of 1700ccs, her kidneys are failing. She is now in the Neuro Trauma ICU on continuous dialysis. Because her kidneys are not functioning properly she is unable to excrete excess fluid. This also means that there is a lot of strain being put on her lungs from fluid buildup, making it very difficult to breathe. Wendy is on a BiPAP (breathing machine) to try to help push that fluid out of her lungs and keep her oxygen saturation up.

Baby Sawyer was transferred to St. Louis and has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscle Atrophy, which is a congenital disorder of the nervous system, causing muscle weakness and wasting. He is on tube feedings, and they are monitoring his heart closely. He is off oxygen and is currently stable at this time.

This is going to be a very long and expensive road to recovery. Wendy is making very slow progress but has been out of work for 3 weeks already and is not expected to be able to return anytime soon. They are talking about another month being in the hospital at least. She is the main provider of her household. Her children, Maryah, Xzadrian, Rutledge, and new baby Sawyer need their mom here. She also has two grandchildren, Florence and Indie, who need their “Lovie” here to watch them grow.

I am making this GoFundMe to try to relieve some of the financial burden off of them. Between Wendy’s medical bills, Sawyer's medical bills and future medical needs/therapy, transportation to and from St. Louis, and being out of work, they are going to need all the help they can get. If you would prefer to send donations directly to me, my CashApp is $kylinsallee, and 100% of the money will go to them.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read this, share it, or is able to donate.
