On July 23rd, our brother Wendell was in a terrible motorcycle accident on his way to work in Northern California. Another driver turned left in front of him, causing a pretty major collision. Wendell was thrown from his bike, slid 40 feet, and hit a concrete sign.
He has suffered serious injuries; his elbow is shattered, his hip is broken, his femur is broken, and the lower part of his left leg is severely damaged. He’s had three major surgeries so far, one to place a rod and screws from his hip to his knee, and another to repair one of three main arteries in his leg due to them being torn. Unfortunately, when doctors went in to repair his main arteries, they found them all to be shredded, so they could only save one. And the most recent surgery was to determine his muscle and nerve condition, which they found to be in critical condition.
Right now, he’s in the ICU, intubated, and receiving one to two liters of blood a day. The swelling was so severe that they had to surgically open his thigh in two places to relieve the pressure. Doctors have mentioned the possibility of amputation, but we’re holding on to hope and exploring options like hyperbaric oxygen therapy to save his leg.
Many of you have asked how you can help. Wendell is facing a long and uncertain road to recovery, and any support, big or small, can help lighten the load. We are beyond grateful for all the love, thoughts, and prayers. Thank you for standing with him and for all your support.
