UPDATE: Yesterday, 3/7/26 @ 1:51pm, Wayne went home to be with Jesus. This is the hardest thing the kids and I have ever been through.

Hi, I’m Angel. My Fiancé (and better half)of 10 years is Wayne. On Saturday, 2/21/26, after being sick for 2 full weeks, Wayne woke up unable to breathe. I checked his oxygen and it was at 80. I called an ambulance. He was admitted shortly after arriving for Influenza A (specifically H1N1 or Swine Flu). He also had pneumonia from the flu, as well as an acute kidney injury, myalgias & hypoxia. Sunday night (2/22/26), he was transferred to the PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and placed on high flow oxygen. By Monday, 2/23/26, he was unable to get out of bed, even to use the restroom. Tuesday morning (2/24/26) around 5am, I received a call from the hospital that he had been moved to the ICU, was placed on a bipap, and was in extremely critical condition. That same day, around 2pm, he was placed on a ventilator. They sedated him with propofol, verses, and fentanyl, as well as a paralytic (Nimbex). Today is still on a ventilator in critical condition. Over the past week and a half, they found yeast in his blood stream. He also became septic. On 3/2/26, they took him off Nimbex. On 3/4/26 at 7am, they shut off all 3 of the other meds. It’s now 3/6/26 @8:30pm and he still hasn’t woken up. He’s now running a fever of greater than 103°. They are concerned about a possible brain injury, such as metabolic encephalopathy, hypoxic brain injury, seizures, or lack of brain activity. They want to do a tracheostomy Monday or Tuesday, but one of Wayne’s arteries runs directly over where they normally place the tracheostomy, making it EXTREMELY risky. If they even Knick the artery, it could mean death before they can even do anything to repair it. They also said because of his size and his sleep apnea, if he gets a tracheostomy, he may have it the rest of his life. So, at the moment we are just watching and waiting. The Dr. says even if he wakes up right now, he won’t be back to doing things for Months. I’m definitely not one to ask for a hand out. I just don’t know what do mentally, emotionally, or financially. If you are able to help, it would mean more to me than words can even express.
Thank you♥️
