Support Wayne Hays in His Battle Against ALS

Donation protected
I am reaching out to you today on behalf of my precious uncle, Wayne Hays and his family. I am launching this GoFundMe campaign to support Wayne in his courageous battle against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) aka Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a debilitating neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles, gradually leading to paralysis. With your support, we can help Wayne and his family navigate the challenges of this devastating condition and bring hope and comfort to their lives.

Wayne retired at the end of 2020 to start the next chapter in his life. His goal was to live a long and enjoyable retirement in San Antonio, Texas with his wife, Goldie by his side and son, Shane, popping in for visits. He planned on watching his many nephews and nieces grow up and spending quality time among family and friends. Wayne has an incredible sense of humor and his laughter is infectious. Wayne is also a big sports enthusiast and loves to “coach” his teams to victory by shouting at the television. Go Spurs, Astros and UT! He has an adventurous spirit and he loves to hit the coast to surf whenever the forecast brings good waves. One of Wayne’s favorite pastimes is to spontaneously venture to wherever there is a snowstorm in Texas and then spend the rest of the day enjoying this rare winter wonderland. Unfortunately, these passions are now becoming memories.

Wayne was an integral part of Bachelor Cadillac’s sales team for over 28 years and helped serve the community with the utmost dignity. He has always been the “GO-TO- guy” for anything from answering questions about vehicles to draft picks for a winning fantasy football team…Wayne’s your guy. Whether it’s encouragement, humor, advice, or help he is faithful to always come through for his family and friends. My uncle is one of those rare people who has the ability to make you feel as though you are the only person that matters when he listens to your story. Since Wayne has always helped others, it is very difficult for him to be the person to reach out for assistance.

We learned of his illness last winter. Since that time, he has shown resilience in the most sincere way. He soaks in the moments, and when he smiles, it’s contagious. Wayne is the definition of perseverance. His enthusiasm and joy don’t quit despite his prognosis. He has seen how much everyone cares about him and how they want to help him in his battle. He understands that this disease requires the help of many and is thankful for the loved ones who have been there for him through this journey. My uncle needs additional help.

Wayne needs monetary support to help compensate for the ever-increasing medical costs it takes to help manage his physical impairments. His needs are increasing and he requires access to medical equipment so that everyday tasks we take for granted are manageable. There are many direct costs related to ALS, including (but not limited to) medical testing, copays, medications, equipment, and at-home care. Also, there are the indirect costs: travel expenses and more. We all try to save for our future, but with this unexpected illness, his retirement travel fund has a different purpose now and is dwindling faster than expected. Please help us in supporting Wayne by donating any amount you can. We would be grateful if you could share this post with others so that we can help Wayne weather this storm.

With Sincerest Thanks,

Chelsea Hays
