Waylon and his three siblings are facing an incredibly tough holiday season. Early EEG tests showed seizure activity, and Waylon began high-dose anti-seizure medications. Despite treatment, he continued having multiple seizures—sometimes up to 50 in a day. These seizures are frontal lobe epileptic seizures (absence/complex partial), which can cause confusion, pacing, disorientation, and sometimes unusual behavior. The medical team has been trying different medications and adjusting doses. Some days he slept well with fewer seizures; other days seizure activity increased, with some lasting up to 20 minutes. He currently needs continuous supervision, and his mom has had to step away from everything to be by his side.
Funds raised will go directly toward Waylon’s medical bills, help cover costs incurred of mom being away from the family, and ensure Waylon and his siblings have what they need for the holidays. The next steps in his care include ongoing medication adjustments (each trial takes 48 hours to evaluate), a video EEG to map exactly where seizures start and end, and monitoring whether medications reduce the “electrical storm” in his brain. The neurologist emphasized they need to get his seizures under control—without IV meds—for 24 hours before he can go home. Right now, they expect to stay through at least the week, possibly longer depending on how he responds.
Despite everything, Waylon has had moments of good spirits—playing games, going for wheelchair rides, watching Christmas movies—and Mom is holding up with help from the wonderful staff (and the on-site Starbucks). She’s grateful for all the love and support and will keep everyone updated. Please consider helping this family during a difficult time.
