Hello, Family/Friends/Fans of the Washburn High School Ultimate Frisbee teams,
As many of you know, the 2025 Minnesota High School spring season was highly successful for the Washburn Ultimate Frisbee program! Both the Girls/FMP and Boys/Open were invited to (and just finished) High School Nationals on June 13-14 in Allentown, PA - one of just 16 teams from around the country in each division.
That success is the purpose of this fundraising effort - to help the teams fund this amazing experience. Help us reach our $14,000 Goal!
Ultimate at Washburn
Washburn’s Ultimate Frisbee program started in 2014 with an open/co-ed team consisting of mostly boys. More than ten years later, the program is growing rapidly. This growth is fueled by the teams’ success and by a strong program at Justice Page Middle School which captured state championships in 2022 and 2025.
In 2021, the first Girls/FMP was formed and, very quickly, they saw success on the field ... going to the State Championship games in 2023 and 2024, coming one point short in both games. They also got their first Nationals invite in 2024. But this year ... breakthrough!
Girls/FMP 2025 Team
- State Champions for the first time with a 15-8 win over Hopkins in early June, finishing undefeated (26-0) in MN games!
- Won their Conference Championship for the first time, defeating Edina on their home turf.
- Won two local tournaments: Matoska and the Hopkins Hustle
- Earned their second invitation to Nationals
Open/Boys 2025 Team
- Finished 6th in the State Tournament this year with a 17-9 record, their highest finish ever in a very competitive 58-team field
- Won their Conference Championship for the first time, beating long-time rival Minneapolis South
- Won the Neuqua Knockout Tournament in Rockford, IL, which earned them an invitation to Nationals and included a 13-4 win in the title game over Minnesota’s #1-ranked team, Open World Learning (also the 3rd-t place team at Nationals)
- Earned their first invitation to Nationals
NATIONAL RECAP: Both Washburn teams just completed a very successful and enjoyable weekend at the High School Ultimate Nationals in Allentown, PA! The Girls came in seeded #13 and finished well above that at #7 with a record of 4-3. Two of their losses were to the teams in the championship game.
The Boys were seeded #15 and ended at #15 with a very competitive set of games ... against the originally-seeded #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 10 teams. Great challenges and opportunities for growth for both teams. The teams were supported by 40+ enthusiastic family members who also made the trek to Nationals. Thanks very much to all of them!
Fundraising Needs
One challenge of this impressive trajectory is that standard fundraising efforts can not keep up with the expense of out-state tournaments. Therefore, we are reaching out to the broader Washburn and ultimate communities to consider helping the teams with these expenses.
Our $14,000 fundraising goal covers:
- Three nights of lodging for 30 players and 4 coaches
- Tournament registration fees
- Meals and snacks
- Coach travel expenses
Put another way, the total is around $450 per player, which is a goal we feel we can achieve given the strong support seen in the Washburn and ultimate communities!
