Violet Tanck is an 8-year-old from Sevastopol, WI. She is in the 3rd grade and attends Sevastopol Elementary. Violet was recently diagnosed with a rare form of Ewing Sarcoma Cancer. The cancer was initially discovered in one of her kidneys. Since the discovery, Violet had the kidney and affected lymph nodes removed. Unfortunately, the cancer is complex and still showed on margins. She is undergoing chemotherapy and will soon start radiation in addition at Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee that will continue for months. While the treatment is taking a toll on this young lady’s little body, Violet is a #Warrior.

Fun facts about Ms. Violet. She LOVES arts and crafts and is already incredibly talented in her art ability. She even designed the image for her support swag. Having the art therapy team come in while she is at Children’s has been a bright spot during her stays. She also has so much fun on the big slip and slide they set up at home on hot summer days, visiting the beach or nearby pools. Violet really enjoys the therapy dogs she has met at Children’s. She loves the Veteran service dogs that she knows and really just loves all animals. Her giggles are infectious when she gets to visit and play with her favorite cats, Hank and Leroy (“bones” and “no bones”) at Auntie Tina’s house. Violet is very partial to her Auntie Tina’s K9 TJ though, who she gets to spend time with when he is off duty. They are buddies.

Violet’s parents are Laura and Ryan Tanck. As you can imagine, Violet’s situation can turn anyone’s life upside down trying to manage everything that she needs while maintaining other responsibilities. Ryan, a long-time employee of WPS, continues to work to support the family and when available, will take Violet to Children’s for treatment. Laura has had to step away from work for the time being as Violet currently needs constant care at home with everything from typical daily activities, helping give medication, being ready to move for any emergency situations and much more. Laura also spends a lot of time on the road taking Violet back and forth to Children’s for Violet’s chemo sessions. Those are alternating sessions. One session will be 5 days of treatment, a short break for a few days and then back down for another 2 days of treatment and the cycle repeats 27 times, if there are no roadblocks.

The support from the small circle that knows about Violet has been amazing so far. Now, we aim to grow Violet’s squad. With the gracious help of Door CANcer, we are looking to support Violet even more with her #WarriorViolet swag. Anyone that has been through or knows someone who has been through anything like this knows the challenges that come with having to stop your life to give everything you have to try and save a life. Both mentally and financially. We live in a great and supportive community, as we have all seen many times. We want to cover Door County and beyond and show Violet just how big we can make her #WarriorViolet squad!

Any donations will go towards medical bills, travel expenses, daily needs and recovery needs. If there is any excess of funds, those funds will be donated to Door CANcer Inc.
