Walter Cade is my husband, and for 71 years he has been the picture of health—tall, strong, and always laid back. Just a week ago, everything changed. Walter started feeling unusually tired and mentioned some hip pain, but we never imagined it was anything serious. One evening, after resting, he got up to use the bathroom and, as he returned to bed, he suddenly collapsed. I rushed to his side and immediately called 911, not wanting to move him until help arrived. At the hospital, the doctors initially thought he was having a heart attack and prepared for emergency surgery. But after running several tests, they discovered Walter had anemia and type 2 diabetes, and he needed a blood transfusion right away. We were overwhelmed, but nothing could have prepared us for what came next. Four days later, on November 25, 2025, a nurse came into the room and told us that Walter has stage 4 Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We were floored. Everything happened so fast, and suddenly we were being told he needed to be transferred to another hospital for immediate treatment, or we could take him home and let him go. It was a moment that changed our lives forever. Now, we are facing a long road ahead with many challenges—medical bills, prescription costs, transportation fees, groceries, and personal items all adding up quickly.
