Hi! I’m Kista, Walter Akridge’s oldest daughter. As many of you are aware, last September, Dad was in a car accident caused by a stroke and a cardiac event. Since that time, he has had another cardiac event, undergone open-heart surgery, carotid artery surgery, hospitalization due to kidney issues, hospitalization due to a Covid-19 infection, and intense rehabilitation for the stroke. Dad is presently unable to tend to all of his own care, so he is living at Fairhaven in Birmingham.

After liquidating Dad’s assets, we were able to get him approved for Medicaid. Medicaid covers his care at Fairhaven, but my sister Allyson and I have been absorbing the other costs associated with Dad’s quality of living, including the fee for a private room. There are still some outstanding fees at Fairhaven that need to be paid that are just a bit over our heads presently.

If you know Walter, you know he likes his snacks and dinners. I would love to be able to take him nice dinners more frequently and keep him well-stocked with snacks and drinks. He could also do with a little personal space updating if there is enough left over. I would like to be able to cozy up his room a little more. We are more than happy to do the leg work; we just need some financial support.

Many of you have asked how you can help, and it would be an incredible blessing for our family to make this current situation a little easier.

Asking for help is very difficult, but so many people have reached out and honestly, aside from visits, financial support would be the most helpful at this time.
