If you’ve ever worked at or visited La Qchara in Melrose or Beverly, then you probably know Walter. He’s one of those rare people who touches every life he crosses—the salt of the earth. Walter is kind, honest, hard-working, and selfless. He’s the kind of person who will go out of his way to help anyone, expecting nothing in return. Always with a warm smile, Walter is deeply devoted to his family and community.

Just this past Tuesday, Walter was detained by ICE while at his car. He is now being held in immigration custody, and his family is facing unimaginable stress—both emotionally and financially. We are currently working to raise funds for a lawyer to represent him at his court date on June 5, and to support his family, who depended on his income.

We are also hoping to send funds to his commissary account so that Walter can have some basic comforts while in detention.

If you’re able, please consider donating—whether or not you know Walter personally. If you’ve met him even once, you already know how much he gives to others. And if you haven’t, just know that he embodies the best of what any community could ask for.
