A few weeks ago, Walter Altenbach went to the emergency room for what he assumed was a routine pulled muscle from working out. Instead, a series of scans revealed a devastating reality: Walter has Stage 3 Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Liver Cancer). The speed of this disease is aggressive. When comparing his current scans to an unrelated medical scan taken just months ago in January, the growth is staggering. What was not there at the start of the year is now a tumor roughly the size of a baseball.


Because the tumor has tapped directly into the largest vein supplying blood flow to his liver, a transplant is currently impossible. With standard treatment, doctors have given Walter a 12-month timeline. But Walter is a fighter, and we are mobilizing immediately to give him every possible advantage to change those odds.


Walter needs to focus 100% of his remaining energy on fighting this disease and enduring heavy medical treatments. He cannot do that if he is carrying the crushing weight of financial survival. Funds raised through this campaign will go directly to Walter and his family to cover uncovered medical obligations, travel and logistical expenses, and living expenses as they navigate rigorous treatment weeks that make regular work impossible.
