Support Walk and Talk for Mental Health

Mike Fawcett, from the Walk & Talk team, is walking 301 miles in May, in memory of the 4 friends he has lost to suicide within the last 12 months. Mike aims to raise £500 for 'The Elliot Project', which provides accredited Mental Health Resilience and Mental Health First Aid training completely free of charge to those struggling with the effects of poor mental health, and for those who wish to understand mental health better.

The Elliot Project was created by the Hennell family in honour of their son and brother Elliot, who tragically lost his battle with PTSD in July 2020. Mike is walking the extra 301st mile in Elliot's memory, as Elliot once went the extra mile for Mike when he was fighting his own battle with mental health. Mike and Elliot had both served on operations in the Grenadier Guards.

The story of Walk & Talk for Mental Health has been a fascinating one.

Walk & Talk for Mental Health was set up by a team of serving and armed forces veterans, who had been personally affected by poor mental health, to help those who suffer with mental illness and to support those left behind when a loved one tragically takes their own life.

Within Walk & Talk 'The Elliot Project' was created by the Hennell family, in honour of their son and brother Elliot. Elliot Hennell was a former Grenadier Guardsman, who tragically lost his fight against PTSD in July 2020.

The Elliot project provides free Mental Health Courses to help and support those suffering to better understand their illness. The project also aims to help professional organisations and businesses to better understand mental illness, and establish the framework required to support their people, who may be directly or indirectly suffering from the effects of poor mental health.

Walk & Talk set themselves a target of funding 12 courses through The Elliot Project between Nov 20 and Nov 21.

They have just completed course 7 and have 5 more left for the year.

The Elliot Project has now trained 148 people in Mental health resilience and first aid, and are on their way to achieving an incredible 300 people trained within the 12 months.

To raise funds, various members of the Walk & Talk fraternity are undertaking various arduous physical endurance challenges, some of which have featured on national Television and Radio broadcasts.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of those who have donated so far.

To date, the team have raised in excess of £10,000, every penny of which has gone in to funding training courses.
