We lost everything - help Waleed's Family to survive in Gaza
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Andrea and I live in Switzerland. Waleed Abu Hassira (Instagram: waleed_from_gaza) a friend of mine from Gaza reached out to me for help, because it is not possible to open a gofundme-account from middle east. I will transfer all the donations directly to him. He is in the middle of the war with his whole family (parents & 3 brothers) and they urgently need financial support to pay for food & clean water (which became extremely expensive due to the high demand) to be able to survive until the global help can reach them. They need at least 100 dollars a day to be able to survive with the family of 6.
Here is his story:
My name is Waleed Abu Hassira, I’m 24 years old, and I live in Gaza with my family.
Before October 7, 2023, our life was modest but full of hope. I had just graduated with a degree in Accounting and started my first job. I was proud to support my family—my retired father, my mother, and my three siblings.
My brother Mohammed had just graduated high school with excellent grades and wanted to study engineering. My younger brother Kareem was still in school, working hard to build a future. We were hopeful. We had plans.
But on October 7, everything changed. The war started.
And within days, we lost our home, our jobs, our safety, and our dreams.
We fled on foot from northern Gaza with nothing but the clothes we were wearing. We had no food, no water, no belongings— just fear and survival instincts. We ended up living in a tent, exposed to cold, hunger, and trauma.
For months, we lived with nothing.
We lost our savings.
We lost our stability.
We lost time, education, health, and peace of mind.
When the first ceasefire came, we returned to see if we could rebuild. But what we found was total destruction. Our home was gone. Streets were unrecognizable. My father, already fragile, suffered a psychological breakdown and had to be hospitalized.
Despite everything, he didn’t want to see his children sleep in a tent again. Because when the bombs drop you burn alive. Somehow, he managed to rent a small appartment with no doors or covered window, it is more a ruin with walls. But the cost is crushing us:
Our basic needs (monthly):
• House Rent: $400
• Water & Electricity: $100
• Food for the family: $100/day, which covers only one meal a day (we are 6 people – food prices have skyrocketed due to the siege)
• Medicine & Essentials: Variable but constant (we have ongoing health issues, including trauma-related care)
That’s over $3,500 per month just to survive. And we have currently no possibility to an other source of income then donations.
I lost my job and there are no work opportunities under this blockade and destruction. Everything I worked for is gone. But I’m still here, and I’m still fighting for my family and our life.
Why we’re asking for help:
We are not just trying to survive—we are trying to hold on to our dignity.
To keep a roof over our heads.
To feed our family.
To protect my younger brothers from a future of complete despair.
Your donation can:
✅ Cover our rent (it is safer than living in a tent)
✅ Pay for water and electricity
✅ Feed us daily (at least one meal a day)
✅ Provide essential medicine and basic hygiene
✅ Gives hope & help us breathe again
This is not just our story—this is the reality of thousands. But today, I’m speaking for my family. With your compassion & help we can hopefully make it alive through this war.
Please, if you can help, donate and share our story. Every dollar matters. Every act of kindness brings us one step closer to safety, stability, and helps us to survive - a chance to start over.
If you're reading this, thank you - for listening, for caring und for standing with us.
With deep gratitude,
Waleed Abu Hassira
