Update on Waffy Nov 25, 2025
Waff went in for another blood test over the weekend to verify that her kidneys continued to improve. While we were hoping we would be in the clear with just a few more days of recovery, her blood test came back with elevated levels again.
Our home vet thinks that rather than her getting into something toxic, she has likely had kidney issues her whole life. So when the emergency vet prescribed her pain meds, they were incredibly toxic to her kidneys and sent her into kidney failure.
With this information now, we know we have a long journey ahead of us to figure out how to help our sweet baby.
Waff is still home and comfortable. She will be on subq fluids for the next two weeks before we do another blood test.
She is incredibly exhausted from the last week and she’s still not feeling great. She’s been prescribed anti-nausea medication as well as an appetite stimulant to help her eat as she is not eating enough to sustain herself.
We continue to thank everyone for the love and support everyone has given us even more than financially.
Hopefully we will get Waffle back to normal in the coming weeks and be able to give her the support she needs to live a long happy life
Update on Waffy Nov 22, 2024
She is home for now! Her kidney count is still high, but she had a significant improvement the last 24 hours on fluids and medication. The doc sent her with a fluid bump between her shoulders to get her home and through today.
We are taking her into Legacy Animal Medical Center in Liberty Lake tomorrow morning for another blood test to be sure her numbers continued to come down and discuss next steps, possible further or regular treatment.
Until then she has finally calmed down enough to relax at home in her bed close to her humans after too many days of no food, or sleep in the hospital. (shout out to Emergency Pet Care in Post Falls, they were so helpful and sweet to her while she was so stressed out)
We are so thankful for everyone’s support and love. Hopefully she is over the big hump, but this is just the beginning of navigating a new journey with her to keep her happy, healthy and strong moving forward

Hello,
Yesterday our cat, Waffle, was diagnosed with kidney failure out of no where.
She’s only 6 years old and has always been healthy. She’s never shown signs or symptoms. Last week we took her in for what we thought to be a UTI. The vet agreed and treated it as such. She spent 5 days on medication, but when we got home from work Tuesday afternoon, she didn’t greet us at the door as normal and had been sick around the apartment.
We took her to the emergency vet. They ran some blood tests and found she was in full kidney failure. We immediately started her on fluids and medication to help her get better. After 24 hours on fluids her blood tests came back even worse.
We got to visit her this afternoon, and she looks completely healthy and acting as she normally would. Her attitude, energy and need for constant attention while we were there did not match what the blood work is showing.
We chose to try another 24 hours on fluids, but the vet informed us for cases like hers she may need to be on them longer. She said most people will choose to euthanize their pet or surrender them with no chance of seeing them again.
We know our girl is a fighter and can make it home with the right treatment, but we need help.
We are already $2500 into her treatment and are trying to exhaust all our options to help Waffle get better and come home to her sister with us.
ALL funds donated will go towards her current treatment if we a lucky enough to be blessed with more than we use it will be donated back to help other animals emergency medical needs.
