Birthday Fundraiser for Wadsworth Square Sanctuary for Wayward Cats-Ferals and Familiars Welcome.

Since 1982 I have been rescuing cats and their kittens. To date I have taken in 21 cats five of which are currently living with me and a little adopted dog. All were strays that appeared at my house and three were just little kittens. I have also trapped several litters of kittens and all were either adopted into good homes or went to a non kill shelter where they eventually got adopted. Presently I have rescued three older kittens waiting to get spayed/neutered, tested, vaccinated and and microchipped. I am working with a vet tech in my neighborhood and several male and female cats have been trapped, neutered and spayed, vaccinated and ears clipped.

Veterinary costs for me can be in the thousands each year and over one thousand dollars for just the months of November and December. I purchase 150 cans of cat food per month, about 20 lbs. of dry food and gallons of lactose free milk. A heating tray on the porch keeps food from freezing. I have two sheltered wooden insulated huts with heating pads for winter and two heated water bowels. My back deck has five insulated huts.

As you can imagine this all costs quite a bit and I am 72 years old this month dealing with disabilities and of modest means. No donation is too small. $2 will buy three cans of cat food. I believe in paying it forward and 20% of all donations will be given to a man in Indonesia who rescues many cats and I send him periodic donations.

As the philosopher Jeremy Bentham aptly put it, "The question is not whether they can reason but can they suffer."
