First and foremost, I am making this GoFundMe of my own free will, and the person this is intended for has by NO means asked for any help. She just simply deserves it, which you will come to understand very soon.
Vivienne, a hilarious, loving, spirited, 11-year-old french bulldog, was rushed to the ER on Monday with suspected pneumonia & labored breathing. The first vet who saw her thought it was possible she may not make the 75 mile trip to the nearest ER Vet equipped with the proper oxygen equipment. Dana, Vivienne’s person, rushed her from Ocean Shores to Olympia Vet Specialists where Vivienne was admitted and almost instantly began oxygen treatment.
The first 24 hours in the hospital were rough for Vivienne. The stress caused her little body to shake uncontrollably, making it even harder for her to breathe. The first round of x-rays & blood tests revealed that she wasn’t only suffering from pneumonia. There was also something unknown that was causing severe swelling in her airway that would require more imaging & testing. During the second round of x-rays stopped breathing and had to be intubated and put on a ventilator. Thankfully, she was able to breathe on her own after a few hours of having the ventilator breathing for her.
On Vivienne’s second day in the hospital, she received a sedated exam of her airway. It was determined that she had Everted Laryngeal Saccules and an extremely long soft palate, most likely causing at least some of the swelling that was blocking her airway. Removing the saccules and shortening her soft palate would require risky surgery. Through the advice of the surgeon, Dana decided to move forward with the surgery.
The surgery was successful, but led to the discovery of a tumor, possibly an abscess, in the very back of Vivienne’s throat. The surgeon took a biopsy that was sent to the lab to test it for cancer.
So, in less than 48 hours, Vivienne was diagnosed with pneumonia that required oxygen & nebulizer treatment, and Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome that required surgery to remove everted saccules, shorten her soft palate & widen her nostrils. And, now we wait for the pathology report on the tumor/abscess.
As you can imagine this has been extremely stressful for Vivienne, and for Dana. It has also been extremely expensive, totaling a whopping $8,500.
Dana, Vivienne’s person, is hands down one of the most caring & generous people I’ve known. She is the person who volunteers to coordinate everyone else’s fundraising or gathers the community to care for people when they are in need. She spends her free time volunteering at a local animal shelter, caring for animals who sorely need a loving hand. This time it is her who needs help.
If you don't know Vivienne, wow, she is so dang funny and sweet and stalwart. One of my favorite things, besides her little snores and grunts, is the way she tries to play with anything and everything, including cats who could care less! But the thing that makes my heart swell is this: she has been by Dana's side through thick and thin. And when I say by Dana's side, I mean it, she hates to be away from Dana for long and can usually be found on Dana's lap, in Dana's arms, or on the car seat next to Dana, with her tongue happily hanging out. Wherever Dana goes, Vivi goes too. Through eleven years of tragedies and triumphs, Dana has prioritized Vivi's health and happiness, often above her own. The two have one of those deep spiritual bonds that can never be duplicated. They take care of each other in every way.
Any amount you can donate will be SO very appreciated. Also, please share & send good thoughts! Vivienne isn’t completely out of the woods, and her condition is yet to be fully diagnosed. Thanks again.
