I'm Virginia Williams. To those who know my daughter and those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting her, on November 5, 2024, I received a phone call that no parent ever wants to receive, the one that changed our lives forever. Alysia was injured in a freak, near-fatal motorcyle accident as she was putting her motorcycle up in her garage. She lost control of it and was critically injured. She was rushed by EMS to the ER where she was immediately prepped for surgery. During surgery, the doctors discovered massive, severe internal injuries to her pelvic and hip bones. She also had broken her right wrist. Given she's right-handed, she will have to learn to use her left hand which will be difficult.
The injuries were so extensive, they impacted her whole body, but mostly her entire right side, due to trauma suffered in her right hip mainly. Because of the severity of her injuries, she was given very strong pain medication in high doses to limit her moving because every little movement was difficult and painful, also at the time, the extent of the injuries was unknown. The injuries were so massive, she was in such a critical state she had to endure three separate surgeries. The first one was to reconstruct her pelvis and hip bones. The second one was to stop internal bleeding as her hemoglobin levels were rapidly declining, even after several blood transfusions. After monitoring her condition over a few days, Alysia was rushed into a third surgery since her hemoglobin levels weren't rising. During this surgery, doctors discovered a pseudo aneurysm had developed near her lower pelvis which they removed. Because of the trauma she suffered during the accident, she was unable to move much nor walk, so doctors placed her on blood thinners to prevent blood clots. She remained in the ICU for many days where she was closely monitored.
After about a week, she slowly showed signs of improvement and was started on minimal physical therapy to help her start to walk again. They focused on her right side to help strengthen her leg and foot which she couldn't put pressure on. The doctors stated injuries like hers would take a year or longer to heal but because she is very young at age 20, a full recovery is possible. She was provided with a special walker equipped with an armrest and other equipment to aid her recovery. Once discharged from the hospital, she would have to have long-term rehabiitation, visiting nurses services, physical and occupational therapy multiple times during the week, to strengthen her body and help her learn to walk again. She will incur more medical bills and have to have ongoing treatment.
For those who know Alysia, you know she was very athletic whose passion was playing basketball. She also loved playing soccer, running track and playing video games. So there will be a tough road ahead for her. She's a fighter and usually doesn't let anything get her down. But this was something she didn't see coming and is doing her best to handle it. She also is known as a very generous, giving person who didn't think twice about taking home, nurturing and feeding homeless cats or dogs, or buying a homeless person a sandwich. She told me she was raised to be kind and helpful because you never know what people are going through or when you might need help.
At the time of her accident, Alysia was working part-time and attending school part-time, neither of which she'll be able to return to for some time. Her injuries have affected her quality of life to the point that she is now disabled and unable to take care of herself without assistance. In addition to the visiting nurse services, I have been by her side ever since the accident happened, helping her with things we take for granted. Her father and I are helping her as much as we can. I'm asking you to please donate whatever you can to help her during this period of rehabilitation and recovery.
How The Funds Will Be Used
As the days and months ahead will be both challenging and difficult, this will be helpful in lessening the burden she'll face in the months ahead. All funds raised will be used to help her through this crisis as she faces rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy and recurring medical, other bills and day-to-day living expenses. Please like and share with your family and friends. Together we can help my daughter's healing by relieving her of the burden of worrying about how she will meet her expenses, and hopefully she'll be on her feet again soon. We thank you for your donations, words of encouragement and support. May God bless you. I will be posting updates of her progress periodically.
