Hello Friends - If you've found this page you’re probably aware that Vinny recently developed an infection in his right foot which was not able to be treated before progressing into his lower leg. Doctors found it necessary to emergently amputate his right leg below the knee. While this hopefully stopped the infection, adjusting to the loss of his foot and lower leg is not going to be easy. The doctors’ intent is to prepare the lower leg for a future prosthetic, but it will take weeks for the surgery site and stump to heal so that he can learn to walk again. In the meantime, Vinny will need to use a wheelchair to get around and focus his energy on maintaining his strength and healing his limb. The plan right now is to have Vinny return home to finish his healing and therapy. We all are thankful that everything has gone well so far and the family is super appreciative of the offers for help that they have received. In the near term we have started the Ilustre Family Support Page through GiveInKind.com (https://www.giveinkind.com/inkinds/P8D8B5U) to address some physical needs like meals and transportation that can help them. Additionally there will be unexpected costs like medical bills, and possible need for future modifications to the house that will create additional financial strain on the family. Your support will help ease this burden so Vinny and Christina can focus on his recovery and adjust to the changes ahead.
