Help Support Vinny Marroquin and His Family
For more than 30 years, Vicente (“Vinny”) Marroquin has been a beloved member of the Wilshire caddie community. Many of us know him as a warm and friendly, not to mention excellent, caddie. He has caddied with me for over 20 years, and I consider him a close friend and part of our extended family. Vinny began caddying weekends at Wilshire back in 1990, while still attending high school and community college, and he has been a steady presence ever since. Over the decades, Vinny’s kindness, loyalty, and dedication have touched countless members and their guests.
Recently, Vinny and his family received awful news. After experiencing recurring leg pain that he initially thought was sciatica, a CT scan revealed a growth on Vinny’s hip that was eating into the bone. Several weeks ago, Vinny underwent major surgery to remove the growth and part of his femur, and to replace his hip joint. After a long wait for the results, the biopsy report revealed: metastatic bone cancer.
Although the good news is that the pre-surgery MRI showed that the cancer had not spread, Vinny is now preparing for several months of intensive chemotherapy, as well as months of physical therapy and rehabilitation. Even with insurance, the financial burden is significant—medical bills, treatment, and the many unexpected costs that go with a cancer diagnosis. Through this fundraiser, I am hopeful that we can alleviate the burden of these expenses on Vinny and his wife, Sylvia, allowing him to focus on battling this horrible disease so many of us know all too well.
I have set the initial fundraising goal at $16,000 (and it would be ok if we exceeded it). Every dollar raised will go directly to Vinny and his family to cover medical bills and related expenses. No donation is too small; every contribution helps. All “words of support” posted on this page will be shared with Vinny and his family, and we will try to post periodic updates on his treatment and prognosis.
Over the past three decades, Vinny has given so much to me personally and to so many members of our incredible Wilshire community. Now, it is our turn to give back to Vinny and show him how much he means to all of us.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
Bob White
