Hello. My name is Vincent Saulsberry, Jr. I am 32 years old and I have Sickle Cell Anemia, a very painful and crippling blood disorder, but it is treatable. Thanks to Dr. Adetola Kassim, an attending physician with Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, I have been accepted as a candidate to undergo a bone marrow transplant/ an allogeneic stem transplant. He moved my case to PRIORITY STATUS!
As grateful as I am, this procedure does not come cheap, it is very expensive even with insurance coverage. My family and I have been blindsided by overwhelming financial responsibilities such as housing, uncovered medical, traveling and food expenses.
For this process, my mother and I will need to relocate to Nashville, TN for at the least four months. I will be in the hospital facility for about 30 days. After that, my mother and I will need to live within 32 miles of the medical center. We will be responsible for our own housing, uncovered medical, travel and food expenses.
Recovery will be a long and difficult journey to restore my health. My treatment will include bone marrow transplant, radiation and chemotherapy treatment, physical therapy, etc. and horrifying side effects.
Any money you are willing to donate/contribute will be greatly appreciated and used toward the needs stated. If you are unable to contribute at this time, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to me as well. To get a better understanding of its affects, please research Sickle Cell Anemia. I appreciate your time in reading my story.
