Victor Bernardo and his wife Johnni Bufkin Bernardo were involved in a very severe car accident on August 17th, requiring Victor to be airlifted by helicopter and Johnni transported by ambulance to a trauma center nearby. The couple has been in the ICU since then, both requiring multiple emergency surgeries to stabilize their condition, and have yet to receive any notice of a release date. We are extremely grateful that they are alive and in good hands currently, as the accident could very well have been fatal. Details of the accident will remain confidential to respect their privacy at this time.

Victor and Johnni now face a very long and expensive road to full recovery. They will both be out of work for an unknown amount of time, with the absolute earliest return date being roughly 6 months to a year out. They will need additional surgeries in the coming months, and while we don't know the exact details yet, we are expecting an immense amount of procedures, medications and rehabilitation for the foreseeable future.

Victor and Johnni sincerely appreciate the overwhelming amount of love and support they have received already. Their family, friends, and the surf community have all come together to care for them and none of it has gone unnoticed. We hope to remove as much of the financial burden as possible as they navigate this life-changing journey to recovery. Any amount of financial support in covering their living expenses (rent, car payments, meals, cat food, and medical procedures) would be extremely appreciated during this difficult time.
