Two Jewish men were violently attacked at Santana Row while simply speaking Hebrew.

In the middle of one of San Jose’s busiest public places, what should have been an ordinary afternoon turned into a shocking act of hate.

Witnesses describe a brutal assault in broad daylight. The attackers punched and kicked the victims repeatedly, even after they were on the ground. One of the men was knocked unconscious. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the incident and, as of now, 3 arrests have been made.

For the victims and their families, the injuries are not only physical. An attack like this leaves emotional trauma, medical bills, and the painful realization that even here, in our own city, Jews can be targeted simply for being Jewish.

No one should have to fear speaking their language.

No one should have to fear walking through their own city.

But when something like this happens, the response of a community matters.

This fundraiser has been created to stand with the victims and to help ensure that hatred and violence are never allowed to intimidate or silence our community.

Funds raised will be divided equally to help cover:

• Medical expenses and recovery for the victims

• Legal costs as they pursue justice

• Security improvements for the victims place of worship

An attack like this is not only against two individuals. It is an attack on the dignity and safety of an entire community.

Our response must be stronger than the hate that caused it.
