Hello, thank you for taking the time to read about this story...My best friend Elizabeth has been hit with two tragedies that are unimaginable for most. On September 18th her whole world was flipped upside down when her 15-year-old daughter Charlotte, was viciously stabbed 7 times at her Whitby high school, Father Leo Austin. No mother can prepare or know how to respond to this sort of trauma, there were moments where I thought Liz was the strongest woman on earth, but I knew she needed help, and I didn't know where to start.
One out of a million people endure this sort of violent crime, why her? why her daughter? If life couldn't be any worse, on Oct 1, her house caught fire in the kitchen resulting in an emergency move to a hotel. While caring for a stab victim, I watched this single family move from hotel to hotel, hanging on on a thread. While working through the PTSD flashbacks, the constant appointments, the surgical recovery, and the overall crime i.e.; detective interviews, pictures, and statements, Liz was informed that she was evicted from her Whitby home following the fire. Today she surfs the web looking for some sort of charity that aid her family during such a tumultuous time, yet nothing.
She has applied to several properties and has been turned down by each one. The rental market favours double income applicants, and things don't look good for this family. Where is she to go? What is she to do? A shelter? A victim of such a violent crime should not be placed in a homeless shelter, Charlotte's home is a vital part of her recovery....Durham Regions housing crisis should not apply to this family, who has been victimized not once, but twice.
This premeditated attack was not only strategized, but the two sisters 15 and 17, were anxiously awaiting for her daughter's best friend for close to two hours. Charlotte has suffered significant and life-changing injuries and requires various physical and psychological treatments. She is still in pain when she walks and is struggling to recover from the physical and psychological trauma.
"The ripple effect this had had on the family is harmful," she said. "I am triggered by siren noise and the memory of my daughters' muscle and arm tissue exposed that day."
She recalled being told about the stabbing and that there was a viral video of her daughter lying on the ground bleeding.
Today I started this GoFundMe me page for Elizabeth Simon and her two little girls. They have lost every piece of furniture and most personal items. This fund will not only shelter her little family but hopefully generate aid to help the most important victim here, CHARLOTTE SIMON! This brave girl stood up for her friends, and as a result, she was stabbed 7 times. Left with 7 scars that will require multiple procedures to eliminate. The question of where the money will go is simple- this family needs help in every single area of life.
Please donate today to support the teen who was attacked while defending another, please help a family with the most basic needs- shelter and furniture that was lost in the fire weeks thereafter.
Please donate today, everything helps.
