Support the Fight Against Veteran Suicide
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m in the early stages of starting a nonprofit organization to provide veterans with all-expenses-paid retreats to experience the therapeutic benefits of off-road adventure sports in hopes of combating the alarming rate of veteran suicide by getting vets outside with their peers. After getting out of the Marine Corps in 2022 and losing multiple friends to suicide, I’ve always looked for ways to help my brothers and sisters fight against this growing epidemic which ultimately lead to this idea. I’m looking to start building a small fleet of used machines and cover expenses for our first few trips.
VETERAN SUICIDE
According to data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, approximately 6,474 veterans die by suicide every year. That number is higher when including underreported cases and self-injury mortality like overdoses, potentially totaling 44 veteran deaths daily. According to the U.S. Department of Defense and other sources, approximately 7,085 U.S. service members died in the Global War on Terror. Veteran suicide is a persistent crisis and raising awareness - while good - also requires immediate action. One huge factor in all of this is loss of purpose and no support system. The goal is to establish a peer support network, give vets something to look forward and be apart of.
A BREAK FROM ALL THE NOISE
Adventure sports are an exhilarating, immersive experience that blends physical excitement, social connection, and a sense of freedom. This is both a physical and psychological catalyst. Physically, it heightens alertness, sharpens reflexes, and energizes the body, making you feel alive and present. Psychologically, it creates an environment that can disrupt negative thought patterns. For example, veterans with PTSD may find that the adrenaline-fueled focus helps quiet intrusive memories or hyperarousal, even if temporarily, as the brain shifts to processing immediate sensory input.
The Side-by-side/off-road community has positively impacted me and changed my life. My dream is to share this with every veteran as a useful outlet. If this experience can save just one of our brothers or sisters, it’s worth it. I’m always humbled by everyone’s support!
Thank you.
