The American Legion Post on Morganford is experiencing an emergency, and they need your help. Recently, a water leak was discovered on their part of the line, and because they are not a residential customer, the break is not insured. If they can't fix this leak soon, their water will be turned off.

The members of the American Legion have already raised $5,000 and they have some funds available for maintenance, but they could use help covering the $15,000 price tag of the repair. Let's help them keep their water on to honor their service, and continue their strong legacy of commitment to their neighborhood. Without help in funding this repair, they will be unable to continue their charity work this year, and will have a hard time paying for yearly maintenance needs of the space.

For some history of the post: Post 555 was formed during the 50th anniversary of the American Legion when three struggling posts merged to form Post 555. The original membership was WWII and Korean veterans and a Post home was purchased on Parker. As the older members passed away, there was no need for that large building, so it was sold and the smaller building on Morganford was purchased with the excess funds invested for upkeep of this building. This occurred in the late 1990's and we have been helping veterans and some youth organization ever since with whatever funds we could spare. Some examples are the Mo. Veterans Home, J.B., Dogs that Help (a service dogs for Veterans group), Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts), Mo. Boys and Girls State, and a couple of Masonic youth groups. Current members are almost all Vietnam Veterans, but they would welcome new and younger members. They meet once a month on the 3rd Thursday at 6:00 pm for a meal, formal meeting and socializing.
