Greetings Everyone! I am Veronica Corbett West and unfortunately I have been diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. One month ago today (11/17) during self-examination I discovered a lump in my left breast. I acted immediately, saw my primary care doctor the same day for a referral. Later that same week (11/20) I was scheduled for a mammogram and ultrasound. Two weeks later a biopsy and on Monday, 12/8, I received the news that no one wants to hear. I met with my team of doctors (breast surgeon, radiation oncologist and medical oncologist) on 12/12 to discuss my treatment plan. Praising God that my prognosis is good, all 3 doctors used the words "treatable" and "curable" in my case! The plan includes surgery followed by radiation. Because I have been on my job for less than a year, I am not eligible for FMLA and while I will be able to have the time off I need for surgery and recovery, it will be unpaid. I am waiting on the confirmed surgery date but it is expected to be sometime in January of 2026 and I will need 4-6 weeks recovery time. Followed by 5 weeks of radiation and I may or may not be able to work during this time. I am also grateful for health insurance but it includes copays and coinsurance payments until my deductible is met for my many doctors visits, consultations and tests. I am asking for prayers and help to alleviate the financial burden I have and will incur in the foreseeable future. No gift is too small and all are greatly appreciated.
