My name is Veronica, and I am here to ask for your in-kind help. I am a single mom (divorced) with a child in the military trying to better her chances at life. I was working up till the end of December 2024 when my contract was ended, no fault of my own. The company was in dire straits with their budget, and I was a remote worker not living in the state where I was working; therefore, they could not hire me permanently. I immediately began searching for other positions in my field, but I have been unable to land anything, even now 10 months later. I applied for unemployment benefits and used that to pay my bills until those 12 weeks of benefits ran out, and NC does not extend benefits. They told me I would not be eligible until 1-27-2026 to reapply! A whole year later.... I do not understand this system that I have contributed into since the age of 16. I have utilized all of my savings and driving for a rideshare company and NOW my car is in dire need of REPAIR. This is my life line for even staying halfway afloat. I am in my mid-50s with a few health issues that cause pain and slow me down from moving as needed. I am trying to maintain, but the cost of living has increased where I live. I have so many rejection letters from companies that I have applied to. It is disappointing and disheartening to have been in a career and basically been pushed out as I age. My child tries to help when she can, but military pay is not much.

A few close friends send love donations as they can, but it can only help on a small scale. I am very thankful for their help, but they are trying to survive as well. I am currently and always job seeking and hope that something comes along soon. I am drowning in debt and do not have any family close by that could help if I get evicted.
