on may 14, 2025, i'll be undergoing facial feminization surgery through henry ford hospital. i'm getting "the works" so to speak and having almost every aspect of my face altered in some way. the goal of this procedure is to help me achieve a more feminine appearance, as well as diminish aspects of my face which are often considered masculine. this is a very important step in my gender transition which i have been working towards for several years now, and i feel incredibly fortunate to have finally reached this point. while on most days i can accept my face as it is, there are times when my appearance causes me significant dysphoria. i look in the mirror and go "oh this shit is busted," and enter a state of dissociation in which i leave my house and spend 20-40 dollars as a means of coping. this procedure will help prevent me from spending 20-40 dollars as often, as well as decrease the chances of me being harassed or discriminated against as our country enters a new period of transphobic outrage.

thankfully, my procedure is being fully covered by my health insurance. while facial feminization surgery can be life saving for trans women, the cost of the procedure places it out of reach for many of us. luckily, i qualify for medicaid and am in the fortunate position of living in a state with robust coverage of trans healthcare. with that being said, the initial recovery from this surgery is fairly intensive and will disrupt my income. my surgeon says i will be more or less bed bound for two weeks after the procedure, and shouldn't expect to be fully back to normal for about a month. i am entirely self-employed, meaning that i lack PTO or any way of offsetting the period where i won't be able to work. this surgery will be the longest disruption to my income since i began working for myself several years ago.

any support you can offer during this time will help and allow me to focus more on my recovery. i have some savings and will be taken care of during my recovery by my incredible partner stevie. however, this month is definitely going to be challenging and i truly appreciate any help you can offer. even a small donation will let me rest a little easier.

with that being said, i am beyond grateful to everyone who i have been able to share my life with these past few years, and am excited to continue on with you all after this stage of my journey is completed. the most important thing i've learned is that while we are all trying so desperately to make ourselves whole, it's only through the ones we love that we keep ourselves together.
