My name is Mark. I am Venus' caregiver and husband.
Venus has a genetic issue called Huntington's Disease. Huntington's Disease is a very rare and debilitating disease. Venus' team of doctors have told us her condition is not only incurable but it isn't even treatable. Venus' uncle passed away from the disease and we buried her younger brother last year who also passed away from the disease.
Huntington's Disease is passed down from parent to children and can only be fully diagnosed with a genetic test. A little over a year ago, Venus went and got tested and it confirmed her fears... Venus has Huntington's Disease. The disease is all through the body but only affects the brain. Motor skills and cognitive decline have already been affecting Venus for at least a year now.
Since Venus got tested for the disease, she has already been in the hospital on two separate occasions because of the complications of the disease. Venus had to quit her job in October of 2024 and can no longer work. Since losing her job, she has also lost her health insurance because of it. We are working to get her insured and covered by Social Security Disability, but this is a long process and there is no date anyone can tell us on if and when Venus can receive any funds from the Social Security Administration.
In addition, as Venus' loving caregiver, I will need to take time off from work to support her for the rest of her life. We do not own a home and at some point, we may have to move if we cannot afford to stay where we are or if Venus' condition gets to the point where the disease will force us into full-time caregiving for her.
Venus has two loving daughters, a loving son, and seven grandchildren. As the disease grips Venus' brain, her memory of her loving family will fade, but we will never forget Venus.
Venus is such a compassionate and loving person. If there is anything good in me, I think it is there because of my time with her.
Venus is my angel.
I have always wanted the best for her, but with the loss of income and my intermittent time away from work, there are so many undone things and medical bills needing to be taken care of. Venus is the most beautiful person, my best friend, and I love her with all my heart.
Right now, our goal is to raise funds that will help Venus move forward in life and relieve some financial stress. There is so much HOPE, but we know the journey ahead is going to be a long one that will require some of the best therapies and facilities around.
Collectively, we can make a difference!
We thank you so much for your support...
