My name is Venkata Swamy Muluguri (Age 66)

My name is Venkata Swamy Muluguri, and I am 66 years old. I came to the United States in 2012 and worked as an Indian chef in many restaurants across the country. Cooking has been my life’s passion, and through it, I was able to serve people and make friends everywhere I worked.

Today, I am writing this with the help of a close friend because my health no longer allows me to stand, walk, or work. For the past six months, I have been very sick. My legs have given up on me, and the doctors have said I need an operation that will cost $40,000.

Right now, I am in a hospital in Texas, struggling and waiting, not knowing if the operation will happen. Since I worked undocumented until being admitted, I do not have health insurance. Without financial help, the hospital cannot move forward with my surgery.

For the past six months, my friend has been kindly giving me food and accommodation free of cost. Without him, I would have had nothing. But arranging such a big amount of money is impossible for me, and very difficult even for him. Sadly, many people I helped in the past have not responded to me in this time of need.

At this stage of my life, I had lost hope. But my friend told me we should try once more — to share my story and ask for help from kind-hearted people who might give me a chance to live again without this pain.
