Hello there! My name is Vellina Reed and Im awaiting a liver transplant.
In November of 2023, I developed a nagging tummy ache and went to the emergency room. I figured that it was just a case of something I ate that flared up acid reflux or something. After some tests were performed it was determined I had to have a gall stone removed. I had it removed and went home but was requested to have some additional lab test done as well. I was feeling great! Then things changed. After the lab work
was done, I received a call about my results and was advised to go directly to the emergencyroom. I was told that my bilirubin level was very high and that it was a sign that my liver was failing.
I started to panic! So, I went to the emergency room and was indeed admitted. I had a bad case of jaundice that I didn’t even realize. After more lab tests, an ultrasound, and an MRI, I was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma.
To remain eligible for transplant, I must have continuous labs and various test that are expensive. I also must have a surgical procedure (ERCP) every 3 months to replace stents in the bile duct that are there to help my liver rid of bile.
Although I have health insurance, I still have a big financial responsibility now and even after the foreseen liver transplant.
I do hope that you feel empowered to support me after reading my
story. No matter how small, your help will be so greatly appreciated. Whether it is a donation or spreading the word of my story, I am truly grateful.
May God Bless and Keep You!
With gratitude,
Vellina Reed
