Hi!
My name is Aja, and I'm creating this Gofundme in an effort to help my friends & neighbors, Vee & Ari. They are two incredibly strong, talented women who overcame so much last year (loss, housing insecurity, and the every day struggles of being a Black woman in America) to get their first apartment together in Chicago.
A couple of months ago, Vee lost her job without any explanation. Ari has recently experienced a cut in hours, and tries to supplement that by driving for Lyft. Given the state of the world and the economy these days, that doesn't bring in the money that it used to. Vee is working part-time as a music teacher for kids, but again - teachers aren't paid very much for their work, whether full or part time.
They have been putting every dollar towards their rent and bills, but have fallen behind this month. Our landlord is putting pressure on them to catch up, but the job market is awful and time is ticking. I'm hoping to raise enough to help them cover the rest of their rent for May, as well as June, to buy some time. Anything left over would cover their utilities.
These are two people guaranteed to put a smile on your face when you see them, regardless of what they're dealing with in their personal lives. They are artists, with incredible creative strengths, and it would be amazing if they could catch up for even a second and be able to put more energy towards their art and not just to the hustle.
Community support is everything - if everyone reading this gave $5, we could be at our goal by sharing this with 600 people. Naturally, not everyone reading this can give (boy, we get it), so please share no matter what! We Keep Us Safe!
