Summer 2024. Charleston County Jail.
Hi. To those who don’t know me, my name is Veatriz. Most people call me Vee.
A big thank you to my family and friends for putting together several social media posts at the beginning of my incarceration. I was able to retain a well-known and strong attorney in Charleston, Bill McGuire, as well as post bond on a payment plan basis. For all of you who have helped, donated, and shared their posts, just know how extremely grateful I am for everything.
I have created this new post sharing my experience originally. I’d like to create more of an awareness about how the judiciary system can blur the lines between victim and abuser.
“Silence is violence”
Im updating this go fund me to express that I’m legally no longer allowed to share my story. But I’ll share facts and other’s stories.
While in county jail, I was exposed to several women who have been arrested for defending themselves against their abusers after reported them or seeking help.
No one is a “perfect victim” and no one victim/survivors story is the same.
“One in four women will experience intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetime, and of those, up to 68 percent will suffer near-fatal strangulation at the hands of their partner.” - https://naplesshelter.org/strangulation/
I am among this 68 percent.
I’ve updated this post to ensure my own safety and security. I’ve been able to be with my children since Oct. 2024 and am so grateful for the donations that helped with the first steps. I encourage anyone who’s been in a similar situation to continue the fight. Anything you’re able to donate is appreciated and please share this❤️
