Support VaSeans Journey to Recovery

Hello, my name is LaQuisha and I am VaSeans aunt. I created this GoFundMe to help my sister during this hard time. Anyone who knows VaSean knows that he is such a funny, loving and caring kid! VaSean has neurofibromatosis which is a genetic disorder that cause tumors to form on nerve tissue. The tumors can develop anywhere in the nervous system. VaSean is a kid full of joy and even with this disorder has never let it get in the way of anything.!

On July 18th, my sister found VaSean in and out of consciousness and rushed him to U of M Masonic Children’s hospital where he usually goes. They were full so they transported him to Childrens in Mpls. They did a MRI and other tests and found out he had ecoli in his blood due to him having a hole in his colon and dangerously low sodium. His brain scan was perfectly normal. They went in to fix the hole in his colon and ended up having to give him a colostomy bag. After his surgery VaSean had really high fevers and a very sore and bloated stomach. They noticed nothing was coming through his colostomy bag. They went in for a second surgery and realized they nicked his intestines during the first surgery and fixed it. After the second surgery his stomach kept filling with fluid. He was leaking from the second surgery! My sister advised the nurses that it looked like it was urine he was leaking . They eventually tested the fluid and confirmed it was his urine. They again checked and realized that during the second surgery they nicked his Ureter! He is fighting so hard to recover from these surgeries. He is still in a medically induced coma with a tube that drains his left kidney into a bag. They cannot go in for the third surgery to fix the nick in his ureter until he heals from the prior surgeries.

On August 13th they performed another MRI on VaSeans brain because he was not moving like he should. The results of the MRI came back that he had damage to the PONs part of his brain. This damage was due to him being administered sodium too soon. They are slowly taking him out of his medically induced coma but they cannot do that fully until his levels are at least at 40. Doctors advise it could take 6 weeks or more for VaSean to heal from the initial surgeries. Since there is brain damage present and the brain is a slow organ to heal, it could take a year or longer for his brain to heal. This has been a emotional roller coaster for us all.

VaSean has beaten all the odds! He blinks to communicate and shakes his head! The doctors were worried he wasn’t coughing like he should and mentioned giving him a tracheotomy. After hearing that he coughed so hard the doctor was amazed and changed his mind. He is such a strong kid and doesn’t deserve any of this. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t have us laughing from his unfiltered comments and thoughts. We all miss his voice and laughter .. we can’t wait to hear it again!

We ask that you donate what you can and send prayers for a speedy recovery! It’s a long road ahead and due to being by VaSeans bedside 24/7 my sister hasn’t been able to work. I have taken on care for my other nephews to help her out but since she hasn’t been able to work she’s short on funds for living/housing expenses, gas/car maintenance, school clothes and supplies, and any other unknown obstacles that may arise along the journey. We greatly appreciate all donations of any amount. All funds will go to Patrice and VaSean. We will keep you updated on VaSeans progress as we find out more.
