Support Vanuatu earthquake survivors
Donation protected
My name is Keira, and I have just got off the phone with Lyn Ramsay, an Australian who has made her home in the heritage-listed village of Mangalilui, Vanuatu. This beautiful village of 500 people has been devastated by the 7.3 magnitude earthquake, and subsequent shocks. Mangalilui residents are in urgent need of help.
The people of Mangalilui have fled their homes. They are now afraid to return to houses that are no longer safe. They have sought refuge in a hut known as Mamma’s Shack. While Mamma’s Shack is sturdy and has provided essential shelter during this crisis, it is far from sufficient. The building has no toilet, electricity, or basic amenities. Families, including elderly residents in their seventies, are sleeping on the ground - exposed to relentless rain and without proper facilities.
Your donation will make a decisive impact on this situation. The following amenities are needed:
1. A solar array to provide some electricity
2. A Starlink to provide communications
3. A 6000 litre water tank
4. A toilet
5. Any additional funds will go to transforming the shack to a permanent evacuation centre
Lyn will distribute these funds directly to the providers of these services, which she tells me are currently available for purchase and accessible. She and the chief of the village can then begin installing and building these services.
I will remain in contact with Lyn and provide updates on the progress.
