As most people know, VanNessa was injured when she fell off an outdoor stage at her school last October 2023. This fall caused several serious injuries: ruptured achilles tendon, several ankle fractures with all ligaments and tendons torn, dislocated shoulder, displaced diaphragm, cracked ribs, and collapsed lungs. She then entered the hell of workers comp insurance, where her injuries were not treated until January 2024. Finally VanNessa found a doctor to treat her and has been awaiting surgeries to repair her injuries, especially in her leg. She will undergo a 3-procedure surgery on June 4th, which doctors are hoping will restore her to 70% functionality. She will have a 6-9 month recovery from the surgery, as she relearns how to walk, even if it is with a limp.

The entire time, VanNessa has been working, producing amazing shows and events as her school’s Performing Arts Director. She refused to stop working, even when it wasn’t in her best interest or if it was against her doctors recommendations, because she felt an immense sense of dedication to her school community. During this time, she attended 4-5 appointments a week, from physical therapy to doctors to accupuncture and massage. Much of this was out of pocket, as the worker’s compensation insurance has denied treatment for things that her doctors have requested to increase range or motion and ease her pain, such as acupuncture, massage, pool therapy.

Sadly, VanNessa was not offered a position at her beloved school that fit the needs of her current physical limitations. Derek, also a member of the performing arts team at the school, has also not been offered a job next year. This difficult course of events has led to 60% of their income being lost, while also facing months and months of rehab for VanNessa.

This gofund me has been set up to help VanNessa and Derek replace some of their lost income for the remainder to the year, as well as allow Derek time to hep VanNessa recover, drive her to and from appointments, and be able to find another job, himself. It also will help to pay for outstanding medical bills such as the alternative therapies that Vannessa’s doctor has requested that have been denied by insurance.
