Earlier this year, my amazing cousin Vanessa was diagnosed with myelofibrosis — a rare form of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow’s ability to produce healthy blood cells. The only cure is a bone marrow transplant, and right now, we are urgently searching for a donor match.
In the meantime, Vanessa is beginning chemotherapy on Monday, October 27, as she continues treatment to keep her condition stable while waiting for a transplant. Despite having insurance, the costs are overwhelming. Her medication alone costs about $2,000 per month, and her insurance premium is nearly $50,000. These expenses, combined with needing time off work for chemo and treatment, will create incredible financial strain.
We’re hoping to raise funds to help Vanessa:
- Cover her life-saving medications and treatment
- Manage insurance costs and lost income while she undergoes chemo
- Support her ongoing search for a bone marrow donor
If you’re between 18 and 35, you could also be the match that saves her life. Registering is simple — you’ll receive a cheek swab kit in the mail, and by sending it back, you could give Vanessa (or someone else waiting) another chance at life.
Every donation and every share helps — whether it’s supporting her treatment or spreading the word to help us find her match. Thank you for showing up for Vanessa.
