Please Help Vanessa Beat Cancer — Again. Hello friends, family, and kind strangers, My name is David Jackson. A year ago, while visiting South Africa, I met Owen and his incredible daughter Vanessa. Their warmth, resilience, and faith despite hardship left a deep mark on me. Today, I’m asking for your help to save Vanessa’s life.
Vanessa’s Story
Vanessa is a bright 19-year-old living in Durban, South Africa. Originally from Zimbabwe, she and her father Owen have faced countless struggles as immigrants, but always held onto their hope. Vanessa dreams of becoming a nurse one day, so she can help others the way people have tried to help her.
Last year, Vanessa’s life changed overnight. Severe pain in her leg led to a devastating diagnosis: cancer. Despite months of grueling chemotherapy, the cancer didn’t stop — and doctors had to amputate her lower leg to save her life. Through it all, Vanessa’s courage was nothing short of inspiring. She learned to walk again with a prosthetic leg and even returned to school when her health allowed.
Now the Cancer is Back
Just when Vanessa and Owen were beginning to hope for a fresh start, Vanessa developed new symptoms. Tests revealed the unthinkable — the cancer has returned. She’s started chemotherapy again, and the fight is harder than ever.
As immigrants, they receive no help from the state. Every hospital visit, scan, chemo treatment, and adjustment to Vanessa’s prosthetic leg is paid entirely out of pocket. Owen does everything he can, selling beautiful beadwork on a street corner, but it simply isn’t enough.
How You Can Help
I’ve started this GoFundMe to help ease their crushing financial burden and give Vanessa the best chance to survive. Donations will go directly toward:
✅ Vanessa’s ongoing chemotherapy and hospital bills
✅ Adjustments to her prosthetic leg as her body changes
✅ Transportation to and from the hospital
✅ Basic living costs so Owen can care for his daughter
Please Stand With Us
Vanessa’s spirit is so full of life and gratitude, even now. I’ve seen firsthand how she lights up a room with her smile, despite everything. Please, help us keep that light shining. Whether it’s a donation of any size, sharing this campaign, or simply keeping Vanessa in your prayers, it all makes a difference.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with Vanessa and Owen in this fight.
With deepest gratitude,
David Jackson
