I am setting up this GoFundMe to help my sister Vanessa offset some of the unexpected costs she has incurred and will incur due to an unexpected illness and hospital stay for a week in May and treatment that she will be receiving hopefully very soon. In May Vanessa was hospitalized with extreme swelling in her legs and feet and very high blood pressure. After a week of tests and a kidney biopsy, she was diagnosed with Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis. Basically, this is a kidney disease that affects the filtering system of the kidneys.

The treatment that the doctor wants to use is a series of infusions which are extremely expensive and the insurance company is taking a very long time to approve. Hopefully, now that all tests have been completed, treatment should be starting soon. She has been back to work since she got out of hospital, even though her doctor would have preferred her not to, but financially that was not possible. However, once she starts these infusions, the doctor has said she cannot work for about 8 weeks, as it strips the body of its immune system and she must stay home and be around very few people to try and prevent any infections.

As she does not get any paid sick time this will be hard to do, but necessary. So along with the hospital bills (she does have insurance but a high deductible) this is a strain on finances.
